Do you see your calling?

While reading this morning I thought I would share this devotional taken from My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers

"...separated to the gospel of God..." Romans 1:1

Our calling is not primarily to be holy men and women, but to be proclaimers of the gospel of God. The one all-important thing is that the gospel of God should be recognized as the abiding reality. Reality is not human goodness, or holiness, or heaven, or hell--it is redemption. The need to perceive this is the most vital need of the Christan worker today. As workers, we have to get used to the revelation that redemption is the only reality. Personal holiness is an effect of redemption, not the cause of it. If we place our faith in human goodness we will go under when testing comes.

Paul did not say that he separated himself, but "when it pleased God, who separated me..." (Galatians 1:15). Paul was not overly interested in his own character. And as long as our eyes are focused on our own personal holiness, we will never even get close to the full reality of redemption. Christian workers fail because they place their desire for their own holiness above their desire to know God. "Don't ask me to be confronted with the strong reality of redemption on behalf of the filth of human life surrounding me today; what I want is anything God can do for me to make me more desirable in my own eyes." To talk that way is a sign that the reality of the gospel of God has not begun to touch me. There is no reckless abandon to God in that. God cannot deliver me while my interest is merely in my own character. Paul was not conscious of himslef. He recklessly abandoned, totally surrendered, and separated by God for one purpose--to proclaim the gospel of God (see Romans 9:3).

Something about "SELFish ambitions"

I don't know what it is but I think God is trying to convey something to me about "SELFish ambitions." All I think about are the things that I want to do for God instead of what God wants me to do for HIM. What comes to mind is when I moved to Los Angeles, CA. It was a good experience and it really made me realize a lot of things but the main thing was:

-it's not about having a lot of opportunities BUT IT'S ABOUT WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR OPPORTUNITIES.

I still struggle with this now, about doing things for me me me me me me me. We tend to do things for ourselves and think of what will be most beneficial for us, and how can we get more, how can we make more, and the list goes on of how we want for ourselves.

Where the Bible shows us a different way to live:

"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness."
James 3:13-18 (NIV2011)

The Bible clearly shows you that you should not chase after selfish needs and wants but tells us to be pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. We need to strive after being more Christ like and that is to think less about our "SELFish ambitions."

Lord, help us not to chase after selfish ambitions, but to chase after Christ ambitions. Living for you is the only thing that matters. Help us live life driven by YOUR HOLY SPIRIT! In Jesus name, AMEN!

The small things that count...

I woke up at 8 am this morning and made a quick phone call to my cousin, Theresa to get a hair cut. My cousin, Theresa had just woken up... I felt so bad for the early call but she reassured me it was ok because one of my other cousins was planning on getting his hair cut at 10am. It was actually pretty selfish of me to call that short notice for a hair cut. Sometimes I get in this mode of now now now...its kind of sad that I am this way, theres no excuse. But as I sat there in the chair getting my hair cut I just realized how important it is to have family and close people that love and care for you. I realized that no matter how long you haven't talked to the person or seen the person, family is family and they care about you no matter what. There was a family friend that came while I was getting my hair cut and he didnt even recognize me until my cousin turned the chair and immediately he greeted me and said hi. He said he didnt recognize me because he thought I was some celebrity from Thailand that was getting their hair cut (he said this in a jokingly way). Then another cousin came in to drop some money off to Theresa. He said hi and continued to say how no matter where he's at he runs into someone that knows me and they always say good things about me. Wow! Its the small things that count in life. You never know how you impact people.

I started to think about how I impact people. About how we either impact someone in a positive or negative way and what the results are of that. But the Bible talks about how we should treat one another...

1-4My dear friends, don't let public opinion influence how you live out our glorious, Christ-originated faith. If a man enters your church wearing an expensive suit, and a street person wearing rags comes in right after him, and you say to the man in the suit, "Sit here, sir; this is the best seat in the house!" and either ignore the street person or say, "Better sit here in the back row," haven't you segregated God's children and proved that you are judges who can't be trusted?
5-7Listen, dear friends. Isn't it clear by now that God operates quite differently? He chose the world's down-and-out as the kingdom's first citizens, with full rights and privileges. This kingdom is promised to anyone who loves God. And here you are abusing these same citizens! Isn't it the high and mighty who exploit you, who use the courts to rob you blind? Aren't they the ones who scorn the new name—"Christian"—used in your baptisms?
8-11You do well when you complete the Royal Rule of the Scriptures: "Love others as you love yourself." But if you play up to these so-called important people, you go against the Rule and stand convicted by it. You can't pick and choose in these things, specializing in keeping one or two things in God's law and ignoring others. The same God who said, "Don't commit adultery," also said, "Don't murder." If you don't commit adultery but go ahead and murder, do you think your non-adultery will cancel out your murder? No, you're a murderer, period.
12-13Talk and act like a person expecting to be judged by the Rule that sets us free. For if you refuse to act kindly, you can hardly expect to be treated kindly. Kind mercy wins over harsh judgment every time.

James 2:1-13 (the message)

You should treat everyone equally regardless of what their background is, no matter what they look like. We can't control what others do and we can't control what our surroundings do but we can control what we do. We need to make it intentional to treat everyone the same.

You just never know whose life you are going to impact in a positive or a negative way. Let's make it intentional to positively impact this world we live in. We want change but we must be that change!

Just a thought...

In order to make it in this world I feel like I have to make a certain amount of money or I have to accomplish a certain amount of things to feel like I am a success. We tend to think this way and it becomes real because of our surroundings and of this world that is constantly talking about what you have done, what you have accomplished, how much money do you have, etc...But really all those things are like chasing the wind. It says in the Bible:

"Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun."

Ecclesiastes 2:11 NIV

You have to start living as if these worldly things don't matter because the bottom line is they really don't. We have to start "storing our treasures in a place where moths and rust cannot destroy" Matthew 6:20. The focus is not on ourselves but on others and first and foremost Christ.

I just want to encourage you to keep Christ first in all things that you do.

God Inspired Vision

Just got back from a great service at our young adults/college group. Spoke into 2 of my students lives. I really felt the Holy Spirit telling me to say something. Its good to be an encouragement to others lives.

I was just sharing my thoughts tonight with some people. It just dawned on me the other day that I keep on wanting more opportunities to come by but the reality is...its not about having more opportunities but its about what you do with your opportunities. I have been so blind to the opportunity to speak into our youth's lives. Been so consumed with my own life that I have forgotten the simple things and totally missed the thought. But God's grace is awesome! Sometimes all you need is quiet time to see and just listen to what He has to say instead of always talking...

An opportunity has always been there for me to go speak in the public schools and encourage, empower and equip these students.... these future leaders of the world. Now I am finally seeing this and I can't wait to start. I haven't quite yet figured it all out yet but all i know is God is leading me!

Thank you Jesus for another day that I can praise and worship you! You are so awesome and i thank you! Lord I pray that anyone reading this will get inspired to pray. believe and know that miracles are happening, miracles are going to happen. I pray that they will get God inspired vision and dreams that will lead to awesome Holy Spirit driven lifestyles and life change! In Jesus name i pray, AMEN!

Just a reminder....

Sometimes I think I am the only one going through some major circumstances. The thoughts overcome my mind, and I get restless. I know sometimes we get this way. We are overcome by stress, thoughts that run wild in our heads. We can't focus and alot of times we can't sleep. But when those times come I grab my Bible and read. I love how God reminds me of how simple things really are.

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16

This is a reminder of how we should always be... It is God's will for us! We have to remember that life is really simple and that we are the ones that make it complicated.

I just want to remind you that things could always be worse, a good question to ask yourself during this time is what is God trying to show you in this circumstance? How can you glorify His name in this time?

Thank you Lord for all you do, thank you for all you are going to do. I pray that you would help us remember the simple things and help us stay joyful, prayerful, and thankful in all we do for you! In Jesus name, AMEN!
